Bangla EID SMS 2024

Whoever desires to meet his Lord, should do good deeds and not associate anyone in the worship of his Lord. (Koran – 18:110)

Eid ul Adha: History, feast, and rituals

Eid ul Adha commemorates Muslims’ belief in the anecdote that Allah once asked his faithful follower Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ishmael. It was a way for Allah to test Ibrahim’s devotion to him. Ibrahim was ready to sacrifice his son – albeit with a heavy heart. Allah appreciated Ibrahim’s devotion and just before the sacrifice, replaced Ishmael with a goat instead. That’s how the tradition of sacrificing an animal on this day began and it is followed to this day.

In fact, the hill where Ibrahim took Ishmael for the sacrifice is now a part of the Hajj pilgrimage.

The animal that’s sacrificed differs from country to country and in India, it is goats that are sacrificed. In many families, devout Muslims actually raise goats during the year, feed them and form the connection that is necessary for their death to be a true sacrifice. However, others tend to simply buy the goat from the market and sacrifice it instead.

There are various communities among Muslims, and each community has its own way of marking the day with varied traditions and rituals. Some observe a day’s fast, while others offer special prayers at the mosque and at home.

But whichever way each community celebrates it, the crux of the festival is sacrifice and the idea of giving up something very dear to you. And at the core, every Muslim will focus on that amid all the pomp and fervor.
